The American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho works with members of the legislature-both state and federal-to advocate for legislation that would protect and strengthen our civil liberties and to oppose legislation that would threaten our civil liberties. We lobby the legislature, analyze proposed bills, draft and present testimony, contact legislative offices, and stimulate grassroots contact with legislators. Among many other civil liberties issues, our legislative work includes reproductive rights, LGBT equality, immigrant rights, religious freedom, privacy, free speech, non-discrimination, and criminal justice. BILL TRACKER 2011
This legislative session, the ACLU of Idaho has committed itself to amending the Idaho Human Rights Act as well as passing Safe Schools legislation in cooperation with our Safe Schools & Fair Employment Working Group coalition partners. In addition to these goals, we are working closely with our local Senators and Representatives to ensure that the constutional rights of all Idahoans are protected. As the session continues to progress and bills are beginning to be introduced into Senate and House committees, the ACLU of Idaho has begun to track key pieces of legislation that we feel support or question our civil liberties. If you are interested in knowing which bills we monitored, supported or opposed during 2011, please read our Bill Tracker 2011. Throughout the 2012 session we will be sure to update the information so that you can see the progress being made at the Statehouse.
During the Legislative sessions, we will send you e-mail updates on our priority issues and action items. You will also receive our monthly e-newsletter, which includes ACLU events, what we're working on, and various educational pieces.
