SB 1027 establishes a payment system to financially compensate Idahoans who are wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit.

SB 1027 establishes a payment system to financially compensate Idahoans who are wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit. Idaho is one of a handful of states that currently provides no financial compensation to exonerees. When innocent Idahoans lose their freedoms and liberties due to government mistakes, the state maintains a responsibility to right those wrongs. SB 1027 would give exonerees a better chance to rebuild their lives and free themselves of the crippling collateral consequences of a criminal conviction.
