2026 - SB 1247 - Idaho E-Verify Act

The ACLU of Idaho strongly opposes SB 1247. The E-Verify system is heavily flawed and deemed unsuitable for verifying work authorization.

This system creates a whole new level of intrusive government oversight of daily life—a bureaucratic “prove yourself to work” system that hurts ordinary people.

We have seen similar legislation across the country and based on the statistics we can predict that the passing of this bill will create unemployment and create a burden on businesses who have been working to build their business up post-pandemic. Moreover, the system has been associated with employment discrimination against individuals perceived as foreign, violating civil rights laws.
