The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courtrooms, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarentees everyone in this country.

Racial Justice

Though generations of civil rights activism have led to gains in legal, political, social, educational and other spheres, the forced removal of indigenous peoples and the institution of slavery were the beginnings of a system of racial injustice from which our country has yet to break free.

Reproductive Freedom

Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, we strive to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to make a real decision and the ability to get the care she needs. With your help, the ACLU stands ready to block efforts to take this decision away from women and their families.

Speech, Press and Privacy

Freedom of speech, the press, association, assembly, and petition: These guarantees, protected by the First Amendment, comprises what we refer to as freedom of expression. It is the foundation of a vibrant democracy, and without it, other fundamental rights, like the right to vote, would perish.

Voting Rights

Following the 2016 election, the fight for voting rights remains as critical as ever. Politicians across the country continue to engage in voter suppression, efforts that include additional obstacles to registration, cutbacks on early voting, and strict voter identification requirements.

Women's Rights

A look back at history shows that women have made great strides in the fight for equality, including women’s suffrage and inroads in equal opportunity in the workplace and education.
