The proposed notice requirement in SB 1069 ensures Idahoans fully understand the differences between a non-compliant license and a Real ID compliant license, and the privacy matters implicated by selecting a Real ID license. In becoming a Real ID compliant state, DMV is now permitted to scan and store copies of all our primary source documents, including birth certificates or passports, along with our full name, DOB, address, and social security number. The ACLU continues to believe that this provision critically jeopardizes the privacy rights of Idahoans and should be clearly explained to all when an individual is securing or renewing their driver’s license or state identification card.

While providing additional licensing information to Idahoans, it also gives applicants the option to select a non-compliant card or Real ID compliant card which will empower them to make a choice that best suits their needs – whether they need access to federal buildings, choose to fly with a state driver’s license vs. a passport, or prioritize the protection of their personal, private information.
