HB 499 is a reintroduction of 2017 legislation that outlines a minimum retention policy to keep and store media recordings captured by police body cameras. Read the bill text here.

This minimum retention policy will provide objective evidence to help resolve civilian complaints against police without significantly infringing on privacy. It also includes a requirement to keep videos of public interest, such as use of force videos or videos that capture events that constitute a criminal offense, to ensure increased government transparency.
