HB 432 establishes an interconnected database of criminal justice information from relevant state agencies, such as the Department of Corrections, Commission on Pardons and Parole, and Idaho Courts, which will be overseen by a newly appointed commission. While a centralized repository of criminal justice data would benefit public access to information, this legislation prevents members of the public, researchers, or reporters from accessing the centralized data unless the information they seek is consistent with reports or findings the commission releases. This will prevent access to information that should be subject to public scrutiny to maintain government transparency and accountability in our criminal justice system.
